Table upload feature (June 2023 update)
Downloaded file format (.xlsx)
Tables will now download in the more modern and secure .xlsx file format, rather than the older .xls format. The system will still support uploads of both .xlsx and .xls file formats.
Table formatting
Return tables now download in the same style as those you see in the browser. This makes it clearer which cells are required for data entry and which aren't.
Friendlier filenames
Return tables are now labelled in human friendly filenames, which match the table names viewable in Returns Entry. This makes it clearer which table download belongs to which return table.
No title/header row in the table structure
Return tables will no longer feature a header row in the table's structure. This simplifies the table and helps ensure that the table structures are more consistent.
Known issues / guidance
Because of this update, if you reuse previously downloaded tables, there will be a mismatch of data when you upload them.
We recommend you download new tables to take advantage of the new features above.
For full details of the possible mismatch please carry on reading:
The table upload feature processes data in positional row order.
Due to the removal of the header row in the table download, any table downloaded prior to this update and then subsequently uploaded, will have a row mismatch.
As the system no longer outputs/processes the header row in Row 1, subsequent processed rows will be
"off by a row", populating data in lower rows in the table than expected.
For example:
As the system no longer outputs/processes the header row in Row 1, subsequent processed rows will be
"off by a row", populating data in lower rows in the table than expected.
For example:
The "Full Rate" row (Row 7) on an older spreadsheet file,
will populate the "Below Full Rate" row (Row 6) on the table in the updated system.
This is due to a header row "Circulation for edition 1" (Row 1) existing in the source spreadsheet.
will populate the "Below Full Rate" row (Row 6) on the table in the updated system.
This is due to a header row "Circulation for edition 1" (Row 1) existing in the source spreadsheet.
To address this row mismatch, the user will need to manually delete the title/header row from the source spreadsheet.
Removing this header row prior to uploading the spreadsheet, ensures that the uploaded file matches the expected table structure.
